Mission Statement

Description

United Way originally began in 1949 as a community chest. Twenty five years later it became part of the United Way system. During that time United Way support has grown so that we now distribute over $600,000 to local non-profit agencies that provide health and human services. We focus on children and families struggling to make ends meet.

Over 32,000 units of service are provided on an annual basis by our local agencies in the area of Education, Income, and Health. Services consist of mentoring programs for youth and senior citizens, activities and programs for children whose families cannot afford the fees, programs providing help to individuals with disabilities, as well as services to assist families going through difficult times such as divorce, domestic abuse etc.

In addition, United Way conducts numerous other projects: Dolly Parton Imagination Library; Stuff the Bus school supply distribution; coat collection and distribution; free tax clinic; monthly Mobile Food Drops; Plant an Extra Row; Project Community Connect; Backpack Attack - food for children over the weekend; FamilyWize discount prescription cards; Heat a Home; and Toys for Tots distribution.
