Mission Statement
The Northeast Animal Shelter (NEAS) was established in 1976. NEAS is New England's largest non-profit shelter that does not destroy any of the pets entrusted to its care. Since we first opened our doors, we have placed over 100,000 dogs and cats in loving homes. We are located on the North Shore of Boston and serve Eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Southern New Hampshire and Maine. Every year, we help many animals with serious medical problems such as dogs with heartworm or mange, cats with eye problems, or animals needing surgery. We never turn our back on these especially needy animals and will use every resource to make them well.
Description
Every day, thousands of unwanted pets are abandoned in their native states across the U.S. There are not enough adoptive homes for so many of these needy animals -- and most face certain death. We have found a way to help some of these animals with our innovative Puppies Across America Program.
There are thousands of dogs wandering the streets of Puerto Rico who are abandoned, abused and neglected. These dogs are called "satos", which is Spanish slang for "street dog" or "mutt." Special people belonging to a group, in Puerto Rico called Save A Sato contacted us in 1995 when they first heard of our Puppies Across America Program.
You have probably heard of the terrible plight of racing greyhounds. When some of these beautiful, graceful creatures end their "career" at the racetrack, the Northeast Animal Shelter is able to take some of them into our Greyhound Rescue Program.
The Mother Spay Program was created after years and years of boxes and boxes of baby kittens being brought to the Shelter. Something needed to be done to break the never-ending cycle of unwanted animals!
To promote the spaying and neutering of stray cats in our community, we created the Stray Cat Medical Program. This program is a community effort involving well-meaning citizens and veterinarians.
As a way to spread the word about responsible pet ownership, we developed our Humane Education Program. We visit local schools and nursing homes and bring special Shelter pets who are comfortable being around people.
