Mission Statement
River of Words was created to inspire young people to become stewards of the earth through educational programs that integrate poetry, visual arts and watershed exploration. ROW achieves its goals through teacher training, a nationally recognized curriculum and its annual international environmental art and poetry contest (co-sponsored by the Library of Congress).
Description
River of Words offers teacher training workshops, educational curriculum and resource materials and traveling environmental art exhibits. ROW education materials can be used by classroom teachers as well as homeschoolers, community groups and outdoor educators. We work with a national network of state ROW coordinators to reach young people and educators around the country. The cornerstone of our efforts, our annual environmental art and poetry contest, receives submissions from young people around the world. In 2005, we received tens of thousands of entries from the 20 countries as well as the United States. Our programs are suitable for children grades K-12.
