We provide compassionate residential care to men and women in need of hospice or 24-hour care and cultivate the deepest respect and love for life among our residents and care-givers.
Maitri, a 15-room residence for people living with AIDS, seeks compassionate individuals to provide emotional support to residents. We offer multi-level care to residents, with volunteers helping out by escorting residents to doctor's appointments, taking them out for coffee, reading by the bedside, or sitting with someone who is actively dying.
This is a beautiful, warm and loving residence, with volunteers providing a foundation for support, compassion and companionship for our residents.
There is a very wonderful feeling of peace and relaxation when you enter MAITRI's residence. As a volunteer I received exceptionally fine training and receive support from my wonderful Volunteer Coordinator Enver and the great staff! I sometimes play piano in the living room, I help serve the meals to the residents and dine with them. I feel quite at home just sitting and chatting with whoever I find to sit with... all the residents are used to us volunteers being there and make us feel welcome. Listening is much appreciated as is reading to someone who may no longer be able to read for themselves, sharing a puzzle with a resident in the living room, going for a walk with someone or accompanying them to an appointment, to a store or even a movie or show. MAITRI is a warm homelike place where people live and sometimes come to die. Volunteering at MAITRI has become one of the most meaningful experiences of my life... Come join us and the men and women of MAITRI..
