Mission Statement

Providing free walking tours of El Pueblo de Los Angeles, considered the birthplace of Los Angeles, to illuminate the history behind the city's founding and evolution.

Description

Las Angelitas del Pueblo, which has been giving free walking tours of the birthplace of Los Angeles for more than 50 years, is accepting applications for its five-week training course.

Docent trainees learn the fascinating history behind El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, which includes Olvera Street, the city's oldest home and church, its first graveyard and fire station, and eight free museums that celebrate the rich diversity of the city.

Graduates go on to provide free tours to the monument's visitors, ranging from third graders to tourists from all over the world.

Trainees will meet every other Saturday morning, beginning March 16 and running through April 27, at the nonprofit's office at 132 Paseo de la Plaza near Olvera Street.

Docents receive free parking and access to a range of perks, including a newsletter, history-related field trips, historical presentations and periodic social gatherings.

I've been a volunteer docent for Las Angelitas del Pueblo for three years now. I love it! I meet interesting people, learn about the history of Los Angeles, and have the opportunity to take special field trips to interesting historic sites around Los Angeles. I highly recommend volunteering with Las Angelitas del Pueblo!
