Mission Statement

The Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission mobilizes Nebraskans to strengthen their communities through volunteering, collaboration, and national service programs.

Description

The Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission was created in 1994 and is led by up to twenty-five Governor-appointed volunteer Commissioners and five dedicated staff who promote service through four primary activities:

  1. AmeriCorps - administration of programs and funding within the state
  2. Citizen Corps - coordination of programming throughout Nebraska
  3. Volunteer recognition - including the Governor's Points of Light Awards and the annual First Lady's Awards for Outstanding Community Service
  4. Facilitating training & skills development-- including hosting the Governor's Conference on Community Service- a networking and learning opportunity for national service, community, volunteer and corporate leaders.
