To promote communication and collaboration among ethnically divided peoples, providing the tools and ongoing assistance to support small-scale, sustainable efforts aimed at economic and social development. HasNa integrated tangible social and economic objectives with conflict resolution activities, and helps to create self-sustainable local initiatives that promise to ameliorate conflict and bring about cooperation among groups.

Description

Ultimately, genuine and permanent peace can come about when diverse communities in a region understand and respect one another, develop economies that are more equitable and interdependent, and share a vision for a common future.

Traditional conflict resolution interventions can help manage disputes and provide a respite from conflict. They promote communication and understanding, recognition of differences, acceptance of diversity and the discovery of common ground. Even the better programs, however, which leave behind trained mediators and local institutions to continue their work, fail to address in a significant way economic factors.

Over the past five years, by integrating tangible social and economic objectives with conflict resolution activities, HasNa has helped create self-sustainable local initiatives that promise to ameliorate conflict and bring about cooperation among groups.
