Mission Statement

Prospect Hill Academy is a K-12 charter public school located in Somerville and Cambridge with the mission to prepare each student for success in college, inspire a lifelong love of learning, and foster responsible citizenship. At PHA, the prevailing belief is that with hard work, effective effort, perseverance through adversity, committed teachers, and invested parents, all students are capable of academic, intellectual, social, and moral excellence. The school serves nearly 1,150 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Students reside in close to 30 different cities and towns across Massachusetts.

Description

Our academic support program provides out-of-classroom support services ranging from basic study and organization skills to content-focused tutoring in Mathematics, Spanish, Humanities, and the Sciences. Through direct tutoring, students in grades 7-12 work with tutors in one-on-one or small group settings to strengthen study strategies, clarify difficult concepts, and complete homework assignments. The individual attention from direct tutoring builds a student’s confidence in school, allowing them to better access the content and achieve success in their academics. This is a tremendous opportunity for volunteers to gain experience with tutoring, build relationships with students, and make a positive impact in the lives of young people.
