Description
In 2001, Susan Schaeffler and a team of dedicated educators founded KIPP DC: KEY Academy, Washington DC's first KIPP school. KIPP DC: KEY Academy opened with 80 5th grade students in the basement of Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church in Anacostia. Today, KIPP DC serves over 400 Washington DC students on two campuses. KEY Academy is at full capacity serving over 320 students, grades 5 through 8 in the historic "Blue Castle" building in Southeast Washington, DC. In school years 2004 and 2005, KEY Academy was the highest-performing middle school in the district.
