Mission Statement

The National Liberty Museum is dedicated to the mission of defusing violence and bigotry and celebrating democracy, racial and ethnic tolerance, and violence prevention. The Museum's exhibits and educational programs are directed toward linking together the past and present, celebrating great achievements of individuals and groups, and giving voice to current issues that are relevant to its mission.

Description

The Museum serves a unique role in the cultural landscape of the Philadelphia region, and has served over 200,000 visitors since opening in January 2000. As the National Liberty Museum is dedicated to the mission of defusing violence and hate in our communities and our schools, it seeks to teach respect for democracy and the significance of working for the greater good. The Museum addresses these themes through eight exhibition galleries, each supporting the Museum's mission, which explore the legacy of liberty, honor the broad range of accomplishments among heroes, pay tribute to our nation's diversity and fortitude, examine the culture of violence in America, and teach critical lessons on respect for diversity and peaceful conflict resolution. Contemporary glass sculpture serves as a unique medium for the Museum's messages standing for the fragility of human interaction and expressing both the fragility and strength of America's creative democracy.
