Mission Statement

Growing Consumers of Technology into Creators of Technology

Description

STEM Pals is the official booster club for STEM education in the Olympia School District. STEM (or Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) is a technology-infused educational program in which students apply their core curricular math and science concepts to engineer solutions to real world problems. Our goal is to grow students from being consumers of technology into creators of technology and help them envision the vast career opportunities in STEM as part of their future.

In addition to core science and math courses, STEM in the Olympia School District is implemented in classes like CAD Design, Tech Art, Simple & Motorized Machines and STEM Robotics. These hands-on STEM classes engage students in team-based challenges that require application of their core science and math skills to complete open-ended assignments using the engineering process and advanced technologies. Students must also develop their problem solving, critical thinking, communication and project management skills in order to maximize their success.

STEM Pals is a booster club for interested parents or community members to participate in this activity by contributing time and/or funds to the various STEM programs. Teacher time and district funding for STEM is limited and contributions of both from the community will enable or enhance these programs. Please consider how you could become a STEM Pal, and support quality STEM education to help grow our students from being consumers of technology to creators of technology.
