About Us Dogs on Deployment is a national non-profit organization that connects military service members with volunteers willing to board their pets during deployments and other military commitments. Our mission is to ensure that no military pet is relinquished due to deployment or financial constraints. We also work to support animal shelters by preventing the relinquishment of military pets. Our programs include: Hero Pet Boarding Network (HPBN): Connects military pet owners with volunteer boarders for temporary pet care during service commitments, ensuring pets are cared for while owners serve. Rich Setzer Memorial Fund (RSMF): Provides financial assistance for emergency veterinary care, pet relocation during PCS moves, and spaying/neutering services. Veterinary Assistance Program (VAP): Offers financial aid for emergency veterinary care to alleviate the burden on military families. Pet PCS (Permanent Change of Station) Program: Eases the financial and logistical challenges of relocating pets during military reassignments. Operation Pet Wellness (OPW): Partners with local organizations in San Diego to provide wellness services like spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and microchipping to military pets. Operation Shelter Partners: Collaborates with local animal shelters to prevent pet relinquishment and promote military pet adoption support. Volunteer Role Position: Program Development Volunteer Location: Virtual Commitment: 5-10 hours per week We are seeking a motivated and passionate Program Development Volunteer to help sustain our long-term programs, such as HPBN and RSMF, while also developing new programs to complement our current offerings like OPW and Operation Shelter Partners (OPS). This role is crucial in ensuring the continuity and expansion of our services to better support military families and their pets. Responsibilities Assist in the development and implementation of long-term program strategies for HPBN and RSMF. Research and identify potential funding sources for new and existing programs. Support the creation and rollout of new programs that complement current activities, such as OPW and OPS. Collaborate with the program and fundraising teams to align development efforts with organizational goals. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of current programs and suggest improvements. Dogs on Deployment is seeking passionate volunteers to help us shine at the Bark in the Park event on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM in San Diego, CA! This is a fantastic opportunity to support military families and their pets while representing Dogs on Deployment in the community. About the Event: Bark in the Park is a fun and engaging event focused on bringing military families and their dogs together for a day of leash-free fun, dog contests, and community building. As a volunteer, you will be a key part of making this event a success for Dogs on Deployment. Volunteer Responsibilities: Booth & Event Space Setup: Arrive early to set up the Dogs on Deployment booth and event space, including banners, tables, and other materials. Community Engagement: Engage with event attendees, educating them about Dogs on Deployment's mission and programs. Be ready to answer questions and share how we support military families and their pets. Donation Collection: Accept donations virtually through our online platforms, helping to raise funds for our programs. Program Education: Interact with the community, explaining our key initiatives like the Hero Pet Boarding Network, financial assistance programs, and more. Event Teardown: Assist with tearing down the event space after the event concludes and transporting materials back to Dogs on Deployment. Training Requirement: Complete an online training session to ensure you’re well-prepared to effectively communicate about Dogs on Deployment’s mission and services. Volunteer Requirements: Must be 18 years or older with access to a vehicle for transporting event materials. Military base access is required (if you do not have access, we can arrange an escort). Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with the community. Ability to work the entire event duration, including setup and teardown. Completion of an online training session prior to the event.
