About Dogs on Deployment: Dogs on Deployment is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting military service members by helping them find temporary homes for their pets during deployments. Our mission is to give peace of mind to military personnel, knowing that their beloved pets are safe and well-cared for while they serve our country. We rely on dedicated volunteers to fulfill this mission and make a positive impact on the lives of both military families and their pets. Position Overview: As a Community Coordinator with Dogs on Deployment, you will play a vital role in our organization's mission by actively engaging with the local community. You will be responsible for identifying and participating in various community events, recruiting volunteers, cultivating relationships with local businesses, and representing Dogs on Deployment at education fairs and other relevant activities. Your efforts will help us raise awareness, expand our volunteer network, and ultimately support military service members and their pets. Key Responsibilities: Event Identification and Participation: Research and identify local events, festivals, and fairs where Dogs on Deployment can participate or set up informational booths. Coordinate Dogs on Deployment's presence at these events, including booth setup, staffing, and materials distribution. Promote Dogs on Deployment's mission and services to event attendees. Volunteer Recruitment: Develop and execute strategies to recruit new volunteers to support various roles within the organization. Conduct information sessions or orientations to onboard new volunteers and familiarize them with Dogs on Deployment's mission and activities. Building Relationships with Local Businesses: Establish and maintain partnerships with local businesses, including pet stores, veterinary clinics, and pet-related service providers. Seek sponsorships, donations, or in-kind support from local businesses to further Dogs on Deployment's mission. Education Fairs and Presentations: Represent Dogs on Deployment at education fairs, military events, and school presentations to educate the community about our organization and its impact. Prepare and deliver engaging presentations about Dogs on Deployment's services and volunteer opportunities. Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between Dogs on Deployment and the local community, fostering a positive image and maintaining open communication channels. Respond to inquiries and requests for information from community members promptly. Dogs on Deployment is looking for a part-time volunteer to help us manage our Public Relations! Volunteering for Dogs on Deployment will not only help our organization tremendously, but invites our new volunteer to develop your own skills and resume. What we're looking for: A highly, self-motivated volunteer who understands and is familiar with Dogs on Deployment's mission Ability to communicate clearly with an outgoing personality Someone who can use their creativity to help promote Dogs on Deployment on a national level Experience with media relations, communication and working with the press Minimum 6 months volunteer position INTERN OPPORTUNITY: Students or graduates who majored in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Advertising/Marketing will be highly considered What the job will entail: Track upcoming reunions and inquire with DoD Boarder and Pet Owners about desire to be in the news Keep updated on major events that Dogs on Deployment will be present at and connect with local news for coverage Coordinate reporters and media coverage for reunions, boarding successes, and more Respond to requests from media by providing stories, interview leads, photographs and other marketing material Coaching interviewees on DoD’s mission and organizational information to prepare them for upcoming interviews Prepare press releases and contact people in the media who might print or broadcast DoD material Arrange and conduct programs to keep up contact between DoD representatives and the public Prepare visual presentations and press packages as required and keep information updated Works with Staff Writers to submit stories for media sources requesting self-authored material Volunteer hours will be self-managed, with no minimum hours. Possibly up to 10 hours/week. Dogs on Deployment volunteer positions are non-paying. However, Dogs on Deployment is a fast-growing, successful non-profit with long-term goals for success and growth.
