Mission Statement
Every patient and family at N.C. Little Hospice brings with them a unique aray of physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Volunteers join the staff in addressing as many dimensions of their needs as possible. Our mission is to support patients and families as they share their joys and grief, and to enable patients to sleep, eat and wake in their own rhythm, living their days as fully as possible, while saying their goodbyes to the best of their ability.
Description
Little Hospice volunteers embody hospitality, and it is this hospitality that allows patients and families to feel comfortable, safe and embraced, as they move through one of life's most challenging but meaningful passages. Each four hour shift is one-of-a-kind, and our volunteers learn to respond with flexibility, compassion, and confidence to the ever-changing needs of the household and its occupants. On any given day, you can find volunteers baking muffins or making homemade soup; visiting with a patient or family member; dusting and vacuuming; or doing mountains of linens. Simply put, volunteers fill their days here, in Mother Teresa's words, doing "small things with great love."
