Mission Statement

The mission of the Lawrence Township School Foundation is to encourage and support creativity, innovation and excellence that enhance the educational community of the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township.

Description

Due to budget cuts, the two Lawrence Township high schools recently lost a common resource period in which all students could see their classroom teachers for help with class work. Starting with the 2005/2006 school year, all students still have study halls, but these are staggered throughout the day. Through this change a very valuable resource has been lost to the student population. The Lawrence Township School Foundation (LTSF) has made it its goal to install tutoring centers in both of the high schools that will operate during the school day (7:30AM to 2:45PM). Students will at this point be assigned by their teachers if they have an F or a D in class. The centers will also at this point concentrate on freshmen and sophomores who need remediation. At a later date any student who needs help will be able to come to the centers on a walk-in basis. The goal of this project is to promote the academic progress of students of all levels including those who have limited English proficiency to help close the achievement gap. Once the capacity is available the centers will be open to the entire school population.
