Mission Statement

The mission of CASA is to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courts. We promote and support quality volunteer representation for children to provide each child a safe, permanent, nurturing home.

Description

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. That's where CASA steps in. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was created in 1977 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive. It is the CASA vision to provide a volunteer for each and every abused and neglected child who needs one.

This volunteer position is one that will make a difference in several lives. You are the VOICE for the child. It truly is a worthwhile cause!

This is truly an opportunity to assist individual children in a very hard time of their life. For whatever reason, a child's position in his/her family is at question. Sometimes the issue turns out to be nothing and nothing needs be done but, unfortunately, there are too many times that these children are placed in dangerous positions and they are too young to know or understand why his/her world just fell apart. In court, everyone has an attorney, and it is easy for the child to become an object spoken of. We CASA/GALS ensure that it is never forgotten that the child is not just an object, and that the whole case is really ABOUT THE CHILD. We have no personal stake in the outcome of the case and we are never directed to have a certain opinion or suggest a certain remedy. We are the one and only party that truly speaks ONLY for the best interest of the child. If you love children, can write well, and aren't afraid of talking to people...we need you. A child needs you today.
