The mission of CASA is to speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courts. We promote and support quality volunteer representation for children to provide each child a safe, permanent, nurturing home.
Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes. That's where CASA steps in. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was created in 1977 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child is placed into a safe, loving home where he/she can thrive. It is the CASA vision to provide a volunteer for each and every abused and neglected child who needs one.
The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program is the only agency authorized to advocate for the best interests of child victims in Arizona. CASA volunteers hold to the belief that there are no hopeless children, only children who have yet to experience hope. Special Advocates work with the children, the courts and the child welfare system to help find children safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible.
Who Becomes a CASA Volunteer?
CASA volunteers are everyday people just like you. They are realtors, school principals, pilots, web designers, plumbers, small business owners, retirees and stay-at-home moms and dads and vary in age from 21 to 83.
No special skills or degrees are required, only the desire to make a difference in an abused child's life. You must be at least 21 years of age, participate in our comprehensive screening process and training program, and make a 20 hour monthly commitment in order to ensure stability for the children we serve.
The only special background you should have is the heart to care for the most vulnerable children in our community, and the determination to do something about their current situation.
