Mission Statement

Project KID's mission is to promote a scalable network of organizations and individuals developing emergency response and preparedness activities to address the specific needs of children in times of disaster.

We seek to to enhance local preparedness by developing community-based disaster childcare capabilities to activate in times of emergency to support first responders, hospitals, public health, and other relief organizations.

Description

The needs of children remain one of the most neglected areas of disaster preparedness. In addition to being a vulnerable population, children pose a challenge to effective response when essential personnel are unable to report for emergencies because they must first attend to the needs of their own families. Developing a community-based disaster childcare capability to set up emergency childcare services can promote children's resilience in emergencies as well as enhance emergency response for both first responders and victims.

Working with local partners across the U.S., including first responders, public health departments, hospitals, relief agencies and community organizations, Project KID provides consulting, training, and tools to develop disaster child care capabilities to support essential personnel and victims in times of emergencies.
