Mission Statement

The mission of The Sylvia Center is to encourage children to adopt healthy eating habits through direct experiences with freshly grown food. The Center stimulates learning through its farm to table programs at Katchkie Farm in Columbia County, The Children's Learning Kitchen in Hudson Square, NY, and onsite in schools in New York City. We work in partnership with food and health programs that share the belief that children learn by doing. Acting in collaboration with nature to grow and cook food, students will gain necessary skills to make informed and positive choices for their health and the environment.

Description

The Sylvia Center is a non-profit organization that addresses children's health by providing access to growing food and using it to create a healthy meal. TSC is transforming the way nutrition is taught. Our food literacy programs help children understand what whole foods are, how they are grown, and how to prepare a delicious meal. In our Children's Garden and outdoor kitchen on Katchkie Farm, located in Kinderhook, NY, we inspire young people to eat well through thoughtful, delicious experiences with healthful, seasonal fruits and vegetables.
