At The Mockingbird Society we are dedicated to building a world‐class foster care system that ensures the care, support, and resources necessary for children, youth, and families to thrive. Our mission is to advocate for systems reform based on the personal experiences of children, youth, and families impacted by the foster care system.
In 2011, The Mockingbird Society (TMS) celebrated our milestone 10 th anniversary. During our short history, TMS has established itself as a leading advocate to improve the foster care system by changing policies and practices related to foster care and homelessness. We have successfully lobbied for more than 17 major policy reforms; developed a statewide youth development program that helps foster youth become leaders; and pioneered, tested, and proven a new way to deliver foster care called the Mockingbird Family Model. Our unique programs have attracted numerous awards and national attention. TMS is currently governed by a seven-member board and is led by Founder and Executive Director, Jim Theofelis. Since 2001, we have grown from three employees and a $50,000 budget to more than 25 employees with a $2 million budget.
