Mission Statement

The Lac Viet mission is to empower immigrant parents to fully and effectively participate in the education of their children, while providing a high-quality instructional program to immigrant students grades K-12 in reading, writing, and mathematics. The goals of Lac Viet are to reinforce learning that occurs during the regular school day, to provide our children with time and space for quiet, assisted study, and to provide educational enrichment activities that spark curiosity and love of learning. Through opportunities to experience ever-increasing levels of success, students at Lac Viet gain the necessary tools to become self-confident learners and advocates for their own achievement inside and outside the classroom.

Description

Lac Viet Academy is a non-profit instructional program and resource center serving immigrant children and their families in the South End of Louisville. Our center, located in the former St. John Vianney school building (next to Americana Community Center) is open Monday through Thursday between 3 and 6pm. Through a collaborative partnership with the Jefferson County Public Schools English as a Second Language Department, Lac Viet offers small-group after-school classes taught by certified teachers as well as individual tutoring in reading by trained adult mentors through the Every1Reads initiative. Our comprehensive programming and curriculum, aligned with Kentucky Academic Core Content, reflect the Jefferson County Public School District’s rigorous expectations for student improvement. Classes are organized by grade-level competency, and follow curriculum designed by the Houghton Mifflin Great Source Education Group.
