Mission Statement

United together in Christ to meet the needs for emergency disaster relief and long-term transitional shelter care for disposessed and displaced persons.

Description

We are two small churches, New Nation Evangelistic Assembly and New Life Full Gospel Baptist Church, who have united to provide shelter and help to those who've lost everything in hurricane Katrina. New Life is approved by Health Department officials and currently taking up to 50 persons in it's church facility with space available for another 100 persons in nearby educational building facility as soon as we are supplied adequately to care for them. Samaritan House is an emergency response and long-term (3 to 5 yrs.) transitional shelter which will minister to spiritual, practical, emotional and physical needs of hurricane Katrina evacuees. We will help until there is no longer a need for our help. If a family needs assistance to relocate, we will help them. If someone wants to stay in our community and make a new start, we will do our utmost to assist them in getting on their feet again. We offer crisis, family and drug counselling, food, clothing, shelter, activities and exercise. We are working with FEMA, DSS, EOC, Housing Authority and VOAD as well as with VolunteerMatch and local citizens to help evacuees and their families take advantage of resources available to them. Although we have received some supplies through the Red Cross, we are not Red Cross funded, nor are we a designated Red Cross shelter due to the lack of manpower to implement the undertaking of Samaritan House as a designated Red Cross facility. Therefore, I make a plea to everyone reading this notice to help with donations of finances and goods in addition to, or in lieu of, volunteer time if at all possible. We thank you for partnering with us in any way that you can to help these brave Katrina Survivors.
