Mayor's Time

Description

The mission of Mayor's Time is to improve the well being of youth in metropolitan Detroit. Formally known as The Youth Connection Inc., Mayor's Time primary goal is to engage at least 50% of the children and youth population in quality after-school activities. The ultimate outcomes of our efforts are to reduce youth violence, the use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, and the evidence of premature sexual activity. Mayor's Time plays a vital role in expanding the quality and quantity of after-school programs. As a "change agent" - Mayor's Time provides unique leadership and support for providers, public departments and officials, funding entities, parents and youth. At the core of Mayor's Time are four research based strategies; the implementation of the Mayor's Time After School Management Information System - a web based system that tracks and ties after school participation to specific outcomes and indicators; The After School Investment Strategy - a business plan to create strategies to access state, county and local funding opportunities for the purpose of expanding the quality and quantity of after-school programs; Improving Service Delivery- through the creation of After School Management Organizations that provide a needed infrastructure for funding, data collection, technical assistance, wrap-around services, and accountability; and, Implementing a Communication Strategy- that targets audiences of parents, youth and policy makers to ensure ongoing participation and sustainability.
