The goal of the Miller County Senior Center is to help our seniors remain healthy, active, independent and contributing members of the community. The Senior Center is a place to meet new friends and maintain relationships with old friends and to serve as a source of information and referrals to supportive services within the community. The center also is a place to socialize and participate in activities with people with whom participants can feel comfortable and compatible. Miller County Senior Center provides transportation services to participants to and from the center as needed to ensure that seniors are able to enjoy delicious, hot lunches with friends on every weekday.
Southwest Arkansas Development Council is a 501 c3 Community Action Agency that has served Miller County Senior Citizens since 1969. This agency strives to improve and positively affect the lives of our senior citizens. Since inception, the agency has experienced many growths, challenges and accomplishments. Having once called a local church's basement home, our growth through providing much needed and specific services to our an aging community has brought us to our current home of more than eight years, Miller County's original health clinic building. Our growth has expanded to serve more seniors of Miller County by establishing two satellite centers throughout the county. Through development of strong partnerships with Local County and city governments, the Miller County Senior Services program currently serves an average of 2000 meals per month. Congregate meals which are cooked fresh daily on site and then transported to satellite locations are prepared in accordance to proper dietary guidelines. Home delivered meals which are served to eligible homebound seniors of Miller County are also prepared fresh daily on site in accordance to proper dietary guidelines and delivered daily to those seniors. Care is taken to ensure that meals are nutritional, good tasting and maintain the proper temperature throughout preparation and delivery for safety.
