Description

Special Care, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization that provides services to children with and without special needs. The organization's philosophy is based on the concept that early intervention coupled with parental education will help prevent the cumulative effects of a child's disability. Children at Special Care are recognized for their abilities rather than their disabilities. Special Care is committed to providing an environment where every child can participate in activities that build self-esteem while promoting cognitive and physical development. Special Care provides childcare for children who have no other childcare alternatives because of medical conditions such as seizure disorders and feeding tubes. We are an accredited facility, licensed to serve 135 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 21 years of age. Two-thirds of the children enrolled have special needs. Some of the challenges our children face include: Cerebral Palsy; Spina Bifida; Visual and Hearing impairments; other physical and multi-disabling conditions; and mental impairments such as Autism, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Down Syndrome. Current geographic areas represented by direct care include: Oklahoma City; Bethany; Edmond; Del City; Midwest City; Spencer; Moore; Norman; Yukon; and Mustang. Special Care serves the entire state and region through its training and outreach programs. One of the most unique aspects of Special Care's program is that it provides services to children with and without special needs. Our integrative program provides optimal opportunities for both typical and special needs children, helping children with disabilities develop more effectively and increasing the societal benefit for typical children as they learn to respect individual differences.
