Mission Statement

The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking.

Description

About three in every 10 Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash - almost one person per minute. That's why we exist. We're dads and daughters, sons and uncles, friends and neighbors. And mothers. We're all ages and from all walks of life. We speak of love and loss, but also of survival and hope. We are committed to our mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. We are not against adults drinking alcohol. But we are for 21 minimum drinking age laws because they save lives. Our emotions may drive us to action, but logic determines our reactions. Our policies, programs and messages are based on proven, solid science. History: We're MADD. Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Since our beginning in 1980, we've been working to make our roads and communities safer by preventing motorists from drinking and driving. And it's been paying off. Our efforts have helped reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes and injuries. It is estimated that MADD has saved more than 250,000 lives since 1980. Over 16,000 have been saved by the 21 minimum drinking age laws alone. But our work doesn't stop there. MADD also provides much-needed comfort and support for victims and survivors. And we are deeply committed to the prevention of underage drinking because alcohol is the deadliest drug for youth today. Statistics show that kids are starting to drink as early as age 12. And that means that they are four times more likely to drink and drive. As you can see, we have done much. But there is much more to be done. And we can't do it alone. We need more people like you.
