Mission Statement

AALEAD's overarching goal is to foster increased opportunities and ability of low-income Asian American youth and families to move out of poverty and become successful, self-sufficient adults through a comprehensive range of programs.

Description

Founded in 1998, Asian American LEAD (AALEAD) seeks to promote the well-being of Asian American youth and families through education, leadership development, and community-building. We focus on the Vietnamese, Amerasian, and Chinese immigrant and refugee communities in the Mt. Pleasant, Columbia Heights, and Shaw neighborhoods of Washington, DC. AALEAD firmly believes that education is the key to meeting this goal. However, AALEAD understands that children need additional family, school, and personal support systems, not just academic assistance, to succeed. Consequently, AALEAD uses a four-pronged approach to youth development, offering each child after school intervention in a safe space, mentoring, family support and educational advocacy.
