Mission Statement

The mission of the YMI Cornerstone Mentoring Program is to support youth in fifth through ninth grades during the transitions from elementary to middle school, and middle school to high school, by cultivating positive personal relationships and community involvement.

Description

Phipps Cornerstone Community Program, located in the Soundview area in the Bronx, is recruiting mentors. We are looking to recruit dedicated men and women to volunteer.

Mentoring will take place in small groups of three consisting of youth ages 10- 13. Mentors will be asked to commit to at least one and a half hours with their group each week for at least a nine-month relationship. Mentors will meet with their group at our site or other agreed upon locations. Mentors must be 21 years of age or older and undergo screening to participate. Once cleared, mentors will be trained on issues such as principles of youth development, group dynamics, and relationship building. All activities will be provided but mentors are free to make suggestions. To ensure this experience is meaningful for mentors and mentee, a Mentoring Program Coordinator will be available at our site to provided support.

To express interest in this opportunity, please email Tawana Bostic (mstbostic@gmail.com) or call 718-378-6242 and include your availability (in terms of days and times), your email address and your phone number.
