Company Overview The Des Moines Public Library Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that was created in 1998 to promote, facilitate and implement collaboration between public and private funding sources in support of ensuring outstanding public library services in Des Moines today and tomorrow. Description Money raised by the Foundation serves to enhance the operating budget of the public library, enabling the Des Moines Public Library to enhance its collections, facilities and services, both traditional and technological, beyond what public tax dollars provide.

* Foundation funds do not replace city funding. The Foundation provides funding for many library programs, which do not directly relate to the operation of the library but add great value to its basic services and functions in the community. These services may also be considered marketing tools, because they draw new people into the library, and keep them coming back time and time again. Some of the programs funded entirely by the Foundation are:

Summer Reading Program for Youth: This program motivates and challenges young people to read, maintaining and building on reading skills learned during the school year that might otherwise be lost over the summer months. This program is entirely free for participants made possible by the generous donations of our Foundation Friends.

AViD: "Authors Visiting in Des Moines" This annual event brings nationally known, popular authors to our community for free public presentations. This has become an extremely popular and high profile library event that the Foundation is proud to sponsor.
