Mission Statement

Mission Statement:

Haitian Connection Network (HCN) provides a safe facility with complete infrastructure in Tomassin, Haiti, where qualified, economically disadvantaged Haitian students can earn higher education degrees/diplomas/certification online, and receive internship and job placement assistance upon graduation. The goal is to provide graduates the opportunity to access the necessary tools for improving their employment level, health, education, financial management, income potential, and other vital skills.

Description

Description:

By partnering to build an educated and more self-reliant Haiti one student at a time, HCN offers a different and proven education-to-employment model that empowers students and donors/sponsors to begin breaking the cycles of hopelessness in Haiti in three ways:

  • Higher Education Online Program: Qualified students pursue online international equivalency Associate’s degrees, majoring in Business Administration or Computer Science, or completion courses on a variety of subjects from accredited institutions, to improve their knowledge and skill set. Students attend online classes, inside our Center which are taught entirely in English, 5 days per week with our academic partners in the USA. Students choose between an AM and PM schedules.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) Program : Taught online with our partner TWOL (Teach the World Online) as well as with local Haitian teachers, the ESL classes equip potential Higher Education students with the language skills necessary to qualify for programs where a command of the English language is required. Our ESL program provides a set curriculum for improving reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Students attend one of two classes, Beginner or Academic, 5 days per week in a classroom setting.
  • Job Placement Assistance: In a proactive effort to see students utilize the knowledge they obtain, HCN is committed to assisting its graduates in finding meaningful internships and gainful employment. Ongoing classes in soft skills such as rsum writing, cover letters, interview techniques and follow up as well as person-to-person mentoring has proven to be effective. Currently we have more paid internship opportunities in Haitian organizations, businesses and ministries than we have HCN graduates!
