Description

Our mission is to help youth develop life-skills and learning skills using music, theatre, dance, video and photography, while assessing learning strategy preferences.

Participants are provided an opportunity to explore all components of theatre art. Participants are provided an understanding of theatre techniques including memorization of character lines, blocking, creating & writing their own script, art direction, stage craft, set design and dance choreography. Participants also explore the five fundamentals of singing, tone quality, breathing, posture, diction and expression and develop techniques on music composition with an emphasis on song development structure. Participants will act, sing and dance their production in front of family, friends and community members.

In addition to therapeutic arts activities, youth participate in discussions on relevant topics, such as substance abuse, teen pregnancy, violence, parent issues, relationships, and gang involvement. Once a week real time- tutoring is provided to students who may need assistance with current subjects.

Original plays and movies are written to highlight the real-life issues of youth. One such movie is titled "Life is a Struggle". In this movie, youth are faced with real-life challenges such as neglect, drug use, gang involvement, negative influences, low self-esteem, relationships, dropping out of school, and the consequences of bad choices.

A Pocket Full Of Hope has developed the adopt a home program. This program is design to restore donated blighted houses to help low to moderate income families become home owners or provide transitional living opportunities. This program also provides excellent volunteer opportunities for individuals with construction, carpentry, painting and air and heating experience.
