Mission Statement

The Des Moines Bicycle Collective promotes bicycling as a means of active transportation, wellness, and recreation in Central Iowa.

Description

Our core mission: providing refurbished bicycles and educational programs to the community, focusing on children and lower-income households.

Repair always beats recycling! We refurbish donated bikes and teach people how to maintain their own bikes.

The Des Moines Bicycle Collective organizes Central Iowa Bike Month in May, which includes a Bike Commute Challange and more than 20 bike-related events.

We provide free valet bike service for many public events, including the Downtown Farmers' Market, averaging 200 bikes for 26 Saturdays each year.

We operate a Des Moines B-cycle, a bike-sharing program, in the downtown area.
