Phoenix Inner City Outings

Description

Inner City Outings (ICO) is a Sierra Club community outreach program. Through the Inner City Outings program, Sierra Club volunteers provide outdoor experiences for individuals who might not otherwise have them. Most of the participants are young people from urban communities, but ICO leaders may conduct trips for any population that does not have access to wilderness activities or environmental appreciation. The goal of the Inner City Outings program is to help people discover the beauty and challenges of the wild lands we treasure, acquire the skills necessary to enjoy them safely, and learn that human activity and the natural world are interrelated. The program's success helps increase environmental awareness, interpersonal skills, and participantsâ self-esteem through active involvement with nature.
