Mission Statement
Working with partners to achieve equitable access and uptake of life-saving vaccines for everyone. One vaccine at a time. One community at a time .
Description
The COVID-19 pandemic as reminded us of the power that vaccines have to prevent illness and save lives. We have also witnessed the stark inequities to vaccine access around the globe. Vaccines are one of the most cost- effective public health interventions proven to save lives. However, not all children and families have access to this life-saving technology. One in five children (19.4 million) worldwide go without basic immunizations each year. As a result, 1.5 million children die before reaching their fifth birthday due to vaccine-preventable diseases (a death every 20 seconds). Disruption in immunization services as a result of COVID-19 have put millions of more children as risk for missing out on routine immunizations. Maintaining services is essential to save lives. Vaccine Ambassadors supports the purchase and delivery of vaccines and related supplies and services. To-date, Vaccines Ambassadors has provided over 800,000 vaccines covering 12 different diseases.
North Carolina COVID-19 Response
To date, we have facilitated, co-hosted, or participated in over 30 COVID-19 mobile vaccination events in North Carolina. Prioritizing underserved areas that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic has been key.
