Mission Statement

To provide a community-based, community-supported, economically viable and consumer-oriented, quality transportation service for seniors and adults with visual impairment.

Description

TN MetroDetroit is an affiliate of lTNAmerica, a national non-profit, social enterprise that assists its local affiliates to provide dignified, affordable transportation by private automobile using volunteer drivers to members aged 60 and older (and the visually impaired of any age) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for any purpose within the service area.

ITN MetroDetroit, from its base in Southfield, intends to begin with service to seniors of those southern Oakland County neighborhoods with a significant population of older adults, as well as to residents of several adjacent neighborhoods in NW Detroit. The program will also provide access to the medical, cultural and sports destinations along the Woodward corridor. Once this service area is well established, we intend to expand to serve other communities in Metro Detroit.

  • ITN members are charged an annual membership fee of $50 for an individual and establish a prepaid Personal Transportation Account based upon estimated usage.
  • ITN members may trade their cars for credits to their Personal Transportation Account which can be used for rides'.
  • Pick-up and mileage charges are debited from the member's Personal Transportation Account so no cash changes hands at the time of a ride.
  • ITN Software is a sophisticated program that makes "on time" scheduling possible within the context of a complex system of demand for service. This technology is available to all affiliates and is a key factor in program success. Volunteer drivers receive credits for their miles driven, which are stored electronically for their own future mobility needs, transferred to a family member for their mobility needs, or donated to an ITN scholarship fund for low-income riders.
