The mission of Cherokee United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
The church exists to make disciples and, in so doing, help the world to live into the vision that is the kingdom of God.
Therefore, discipleship is important at Cherokee. Discipleship is more important than programs or events, committees or systems. Our primary concern is that you are in a deeply committed relationship with Jesus Christ.
Cherokee is not your typical United Methodist Church. Cherokee began as a merger of three small Methodist chuches: Speedwell, College Heights, and Miller's Chapel. With a beginning vastly different from the norm, steeped in challenge and cooperation, Cherokee has experienced steady growth as a community of faith and service.
As a result of this growth, a search for a new location was begun in 2002, which resulted in the church moving to its current location. The size and location of this new property has allowed Cherokee to begin a much desired focus of community ministries and Christian education. In addition to the ongoing ministries ministires of the church, a substantial portion of the building has been dedicated to reaching out to the community with ministries such as The Cherokee Christian Learning Center (CCLC)-a daycare for children ages infnat through pre-school, The Shepherd's Storehouse thrift store, an active Weight Watchers program, weekly Al-Anon meetings, an after school tutoring program through Coalition for Kids, a full-line Cokesbury Christian Bookstore, and the Johnson Ctiy District Office.
