Description

KKC was founded in 2000 as a unique organization that utilizes the medium of the martial arts to provide palliative care and empowerment programs for seriously ill and at-risk children. From a single pilot program for pediatric cancer patients at Children's Hospital Hospital of Michigan five years ago, KKC has grown into a national organization with programs throughout greater Detroit and New York serving a variety of pediatric diagnoses including cancer, HIV, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, etc. Our most recent New York program opened at Memorial Sloan Kettering this past November (2004) and we are scheduled to open between 8 and 12 programs in New York, California and Pennsylvania in 2005. At the present time, we are conducting a multi-center, multi-state research project which examines the efficacy of KKC's newest program - The Heroes' Circle, in a population including children with cancer, sickle cell disease, asthma, obesity and at-risk youth for /substance abuse.
