Mission Statement

Lifes Handy Work is a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of orphaned children in Nepal by providing them with educational opportunities as they grow into adulthood.

Description

Our Mission

At Life's Handy Work it is our mission to provide the children from Nepal Orphans Home (NOH) with the opportunities to seek a college education, vocational training, housing, and small business grants as they grow into adulthood. We believe that providing NOH's children with financial support to achieve their goals will empower them to give back to their local and global communities.

Our Goals

We have three areas of focus at LHW:
1. Higher Education & Training
We aim to provide every child at NOH with funding to attend college or receive technical training in the field of their choice.
2. Housing
We will provide the children at NOH with housing to help transition them into adulthood.
3. Small Business Scholarships
As the children finish their education or technical training, we will provide small business scholarships to those who wish to seek opportunities as small business and shop owners.

Our Organization

Life's Handy Work is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization administered in Washington State with operations in Nepal. We work in conjunction with Nepal Orphans Home and support the children who are raised in their homes due to abandonment or their parents inability to care for them. Most of the children are girls since girls are more likely to be abandoned and suffer deprivation in Nepal. More than half of the girls in the NOH homes have be rescued from bonded servitude in western Nepal.

Nepal Orphans Home

We feel a strong sense of commitment to NOH and the children living in their homes. Michael Hess, NOH's founder, moved to Nepal and committed his life to helping twelve children he encountered in a rundown orphanage in Kathmandu. In a few short years NOH has grown to love and raise over 120 children. We have spent time volunteering in their homes and have developed a deep respect for the love and structure Michael and the NOH staff provide the children, while fostering their curiosity, love of play and desire to learn. We know every penny donated is used appropriately and in the manner it was given. We hope that you will take the time to visit the NOH website or even consider volunteering for Volunteer Nepal.
