Description

Folklore y Ritmos de Panam of Austin was founded in 2002 by Artistic Director Marta McInnis as a way to express and share the love for her culture with others.

The Panamanian native began folkloric dancing as a young adult when she joined the University of Panam’s dance troupe Baila Panam Baila. She crafted her performing expertise by participating in workshops and presentations that culminated in the formation of her dance company. McInnis first conceptualized forming the troupe while volunteering for the International Fair at St. Louis Church in Austin in 2000.

The feedback and support from others in the community were key in formalizing the mission. Since its inception, Folklore y Ritmos has served as a vehicle for cultural exchange between the dance troupe and various agencies, organizations and individuals throughout Texas. The hope is to expand our geography and spread our mission to other regions of the United States and beyond.

The group enjoys a strong following with guests coming from throughout Texas, with a loyal base in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Killeen. Folklore y Ritmos has become a permanent fixture in some regional events while it continues to expand to new areas.
