Mission Statement
The mission of the Oral Lee Brown Foundation is to provide low-income, disadvantage students the educational support needed to gain a quality education in grade 1-12, that will ultimately enable them to attend college. Once they complete high school graduation the students will make their dream of attending college a reality. Our vision is to help them break their cycle of poverty through education. With the support from individual corporations and organizations like yours we give the students HOPE. Our motto is: To help a child give him a job. To free a child give him an education.
Description
In 1987, Oral Lee Brown adopted an entire first grade class from Brookfield Elementary School in Oakland, CA. She was motivated by the fact that these children faced tremendous challenges just to survive their childhood and young adult years. Her vision was to support them in whatever ways were essential to gain a quality education, and enable them to attend college. Her promise to them was that if they stayed in school, studied hard and disciplined themselves, she would give them the opportunity to attend four years of college. This ambitious effort has become a reality; many of those original Phase I (one) students graduated from college. We have currently picked up our 7th Phase of students.
