Mission Statement

Catalyst for Youth was created to help young people become emotionally stable, socially responsible, and physically healthy contributing members of society. Specifically it provides traditional and non-traditional education and training, resources, opportunities, marketing of skills and products, trained mentors, partnerships, and general charitable assistance creating a safety net for this at risk population while facilitating their emergence as contributing members of society. Its educational objectives include raising awareness about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FASD) and Fetal Alcohol Effects (FAE) and other factors that impair functioning and supporting rehabilitation for those incarcerated in the penal system.

Description

Catalyst for Youth operates Heart of Chaos, an artisan collective for under-recognized artists (13-28), and puts on group and solo art shows year round at several venues. The community task force of Heart of Chaos gives weekly art lessons to inmates at Juvenile Hall and the Wright Center including a growing pottery program. Catalyst also works as a fiscal agent for the Santa Clara County Task Force on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder (FASD) prevention, the Coalition for Alcohol and Drug Free Pregnancies, and Youth Abilitation, a organization that teaches yoga to incarcerated youth. Catalyst seeks and welcomes other projects designed to reach and empower the target population.
