Mission Statement

In Arms Reach, Inc. Parents in Prison: Children in Crisis, is a non profit 501(c)3 community-based one-on-one mentoring, academic tutoring, college preparation and family connections program, located on the campus of The City College of New York. In Arms Reach works to strengthens family ties by keeping children connected with their parents in prison and providing supportive services to assist in positive youth development.

Description

In Arms Reach (IAR), is a NYC non-profit located on the City College of New York’s Harlem campus. We provide FREE educational and social services to low-income children and families’ within NYC, with a targeted focus on children of incarcerated parents and disengaged youth. Our unique structure allows us to facilitate a successful and diverse group of programming for youth ages 6-21. IAR has provided services to over 750 individuals including program youth, their siblings, guardians, and other family members. Services include over 9,450 hours of tutoring, hundreds of after-school mentoring sessions, intensive college prep curriculum, educational and social based projects’ and activities, and free transportation to upstate prison facilities for children (and relatives) to visit and be reunited with their incarcerated parent.
