Mission Statement

LIFT's mission is to help community members achieve economic stability and well-being.

We are working to establish a new standard for holistic and enduring solutions in our country's fight against poverty.

Description

LIFT is a growing movement to help community members acheive economic stability and well-being. We currently run centers staffed by trained volunteers in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C to serve low-income individuals and families. LIFT clients and volunteers work one-on-one to find jobs, secure safe, and stable housing, make ends meet through public benefits and tax credits, and obtain quality referrals for services like Childcare and healthcare.

Simultaneously, the LIFT experience pushes volunteers to grapple with our country's most challenging issues related to poverty, race, inequality, and policy. In LIFT's 14-year history, over 6,000 volunteers have served more than 40,000 individuals and families. By 2014, our goal is that 10,000 LIFT volunteers will have advanced 100,000 clients on their path toward economic stability and personal success.

LIFT’s holistic and strength based approach to service really seemed to really align with what I have been learning in my BSW program at Loyola. Over the last year I have been able to directly work with many different clients providing personalized services, while becoming familiar with a lot of collaborative services in the neighborhood. Assisting clients achieve their personal goals has been such a rewarding experience especially with such important life sustaining services. I would highly recommend working with LIFT if you enjoy working with people want to feel like you are making a direct impact in the community!
