Mission Statement

Preservation Volunteers (PV) is a preservation matchmaker, seeking out historic projects and enlisting volunteers to work on them. It fills a significant gap in the preservation picture: for projects of a kind or at a place where volunteers are needed but not readily available, and--as often happens even in public projects--sufficient funds for paid workers are lacking, PV enlists suitable volunteers, and thus may save an otherwise-lost bit of our national heritage. In a world that often seems fragmented, we help restore community spirit and participation. PV offers a unique cultural experience for both American and international volunteers, plus a valuable training experience in restoration skills. PV appeals to both young adults from18 and older volunteers whose experience and skills are welcome.

Description

History, architecture and the technologies of the past will come alive this summer to men and women who volunteer to spend two or more weeks working to restore historic structures of the past to new life and new uses. With Preservation Volunteers a number of these volunteers - American and French - will find challenging living, learning and working experiences both here at home and abroad.
