Description

COVERSA, a recognized 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation as of September 26, 2001, provides specialized care and treatment to adult and adolescent sexual assault victims. This unique organization is a group of independent contractors that are registered nurses and/or nurse practitioners trained as Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners in collaborative practice with a physician acting as medical director. COVERSA offers expert evidence collection and appropriate prophylactic medical treatment in a quiet, comfortable community based setting. Our services are provided to any male or female victim of sexual assault, aged 14 years or older. These services are provided at no cost to the victim and are available 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners) are registered nurses or nurse practitioners that have received over 40 hours of specialized training in the technique of forensic evidence collection, administration of prophylactic medication, as well as the overall care and treatment of victims of sexual assault. This qualified SANE performs a specialized forensic exam with expert evidence collection and administration of appropriate prophylactic medication as well as referral to victim advocacy services, in a caring and compassionate manner.
