Mission Statement

BookPALS is founded on a very clear premise: Before children can learn to read - especially if they are non-native speakers of English, or are not read to at home - they must experience the magic of books and develop a love of reading. Who better to make books come alive than performing artists, whose craft is the art of storytelling?

Description

BookPALS (Performing Artists for Literacy in Schools) is a volunteer service program made up of performing artists, parents and retired educators who read aloud to children in schools, helping introduce them to the world of reading and literacy. BookPALS is a national program with chapters across the country funded by the Screen Actors Guild Foundation.
