Mission Statement

We aspire to stimulate curiosity and inspire science learning in everyone by creating fun, memorable experiences, because we value science as an indispensable tool for understanding our world, accessibility and inclusiveness, and enriching people's lives.

Description

The California Science Center is a modern facility with all-new interactive exhibits and programs, and a seven story IMAX Theater with 3D capabilities. This exciting environment makes for an extraordinary learning experience for guests of all ages. Interested teens and adults can provide assistance in several different ways including stimulating an interest in science by facilitating and encouraging hands-on learning in our educational exhibits; by assisting our curators with the plant and animal life; or by providing our guests with a warm welcome and answering questions. As a California Science Center volunteer you can enjoy many special benefits including free parking, specialized group or individual training, previews of exhibits, invitations to special events and activities. Volunteers also have an opportunity to earn free Explorer Level Membership. The minimum age for volunteers is 16. Opportunities are available 7 days a week and experience is not necessary, only the desire and willingness to be of service, to learn, and share what you learn with our guests.

Volunteering at the Explorastore at the California Science Center was a fun experience. I had the chance to interact with children and adults of all ages and help them when they called for assistance. It was entertaining to see all the new toys and crafts the store would stock during the day and it was even more enjoyable seeing the kids' reaction of seeing a myriad of novelty goods throughout the store. The staff was enjoyable to work with and fun to talk to. When I needed help , they would do what they could to help and always greeted me with a smile.

The best place for STEM children And as a para educator I believe education is important. I believe development is very important for a baby and toddler but also kids at a young age for their future . I am glad we have a science center in Los Angeles with learning tools . Science is very important ! Thank you Science Center .

Although they have some attempts at organization, it is very poorly done. While I was told to fill out an emailed an application form, it was not put in the right format and so another form was sent in the mail. Also, even though they asked for times that volunteers were unavailable, I was nevertheless emailed and scheduled during a time in which I stated that I could not make it. Furthermore, when trying to reschedule, only a date was sent (and not a time) and I was rudely sent away without any explanation for the error. All in all, not a good volunteer experience at all.
