Mission Statement

1. To rescue, shelter and place in responsible homes, stray and abused companion animals. 2. To provide the best possible physical and emotional support to those animals in our care while they are at the shelter. 3. To reduce the enormous pet overpopulation problem by neutering all animals that pass through Little Shelter, sponsoring low cost spay neuter programs, and public education of the importance of spaying and neutering. 4. To support legislature that will insure there is a home for every animal born and to end the practice of murder of the "surplus". 5. To spay or neuter all animals prior to adoption.

Description

Little Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill shelter nestled on 6 wooded acres in Huntington, Long Island. The shelter is dedicated to saving abandoned dogs and cats and placing them into loving homes. All adoptions are carefully screened to ensure happy endings. Animals at Little Shelter receive the highest quality medical care and are spayed and neutered before adoption. We place over 2,000 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies into loving homes each year.

Everyone at the shelter goes above and beyond to help the animals safe, healthy, happy, and find a forever home. It starts with great care and socializing of both the dogs and cats to help with their adoption. Then you have the great adoption staff which works very hard to make sure that the animals find the right home. All the staff and volunteers are very friendly, caring, helpful, honest and sincere in what they do. I cannot do enough for this organization because I believe in everything they do.

We have adopted two cats from this shelter over the past five years and donate food and money to them throughout the year. I have not met a nicer, more compassionate group of people as those who volunteer their time and efforts there. If you are ever looking to add a warm, cuddly companion to your family or donate to an incredibly worthwhile cause, look no further than Little Shelter!
