Help Us Save Us Inc. has been incorporated since March 2010. Over the past two years we have been very successful with our programs and have evolved into one of the largest organizations in St. Raphael, Haiti. Each year we feed over 300 children and teens. We have created a mentoring program where the teens of St. Raphael are responsible for tutoring and monitoring the academic progress of the younger students involved in our program. In addition to the mentoring program, we have created an after school program where the kids can work on Arts and Crafts, sports such as basketball, soccer, jump rope, volleyball and other recreational and cultural activities.
We believe a large part our success is based on one simple fact: we listen to the members of the St. Raphael community has to say. In discussions with parents, community elders, and teens we have learned that they are pleased with the Help Us Save Us organization and services to the community. However they are disturbed by the lack of government programs to support teens and young adults after the completed schooling.
SO WE DECIDED TO BUILD A CHILDREN CENTER!!!
The Help Us Save Us vision is to serve all humanity by providing assistance in education, health, and athletics. We know by providing this type of assistance everyone in Help Us Save Us will be able to reach their highest potential. Help Us Save Us believes we should "teach our people how to fish instead of fishing for them".
HUSU is highly motivating because we constantly push our kids to get high grades in school and to explore careers and life experiences that will support them as adults and the overall community. We provide a life changing experience for all of our volunteers by giving them tools to become mentors, opportunities to change their own community, and insight into how to manage projects while becoming leaders. HUSU supports excellence in athletics by recruiting coaches who understand the academic and social benefits of athletics in the lives of children. Our athletics staff prepares students for participation in sports within and outside of the town of St. Raphael.
Our visiting volunteers serve as ambassadors to the world outside of St. Raphael. It is important for our volunteers to understand that their impact can be felt for years to come. Volunteer's time spent with the children and community in St. Raphael will give people around the world the chance to work on infrastructure projects, educational programming, agricultural training, athletic activities, and/or community-based assignments.
This experience will give volunteers an opportunity to learn about the culture and people of Haiti first-hand. We are sure that 100% of our volunteers will return home with a renewed sense of purpose and pride in your accomplishments. The staff of HUSU is also sure that St. Raphael will leave a permanent impression on each volunteers heart.
