To provide literacy support to enable and encourage disadvantaged students to become proficient readers, thus increasing their opportunities to attend college and become productive with well-paying jobs and careers, and to provide these students with positive role models and a strong peer support system

Description

Leading Leagcies provides a comprehensive literacy program linking education and mentoring for Southeast San Diego's at risk children and adolescents. Premised on the belief that literacy improvement and support can be powerful incentives for youth to continue their education and pursue employment goals, our mission is to equip these children with a strong literacy foundation, reading comprehension, and understanding so as to assist them in taking concrete steps toward becoming our self-fulfilled and productive leaders of tomorrow. We provide a computer aided reading program (Reading Assistant by Scientific Learning, Inc.) and supplement the lessons with group readings, teambuilding exercises and field trips. We provide a safe haven for children to learn, socialize, and interact with positive role models.
