Mission Statement

Families Moving Forward is a faith-based organization of volunteers that provides temporary housing, permanent affordable housing and supportive services to low-income families with children.

Description

In 1991, a group of clergy and congregational volunteers established Families Moving Forward to serve homeless families, by making effective use of under-used space in church facilities and involving congregation members in direct service to low income families. Based on a national model of an "interfaith hospitality network," Families Moving Forward has grown to a network of more than 40 congregations that has had a lasting impact on hundreds of low income families and thousands of volunteers. In addition to providing emergency shelter for 75 to 100 homeless families each year, Families Moving Forward also owns or co-owns 18 affordable rental apartments. Tenants in 10 of these units are provided intensive case management; other tenants receive resource and referral to appropriate services.
